About Volleyball: Camps
DIGS is pleased to post information regarding girls volleyball camps. We will be continuously updating this camp
page for Summer 2008 camps. If you wish to have
your camp added to this page or if you see errors, please
contact us.
The programs below are promoting via website information on camps for summer 2008
(DIGS update as of April 28, 2008):
- USA Volleyball sponsors a high-profile
series of camps and national competition teams for particularly serious and talented
players during the late spring and early summer. This is known as the
USAV High Performance Program. Check out the
USAV web pages - included are age definitions, a list of try-out dates and
locations, and registration information. This site also provides
information on the national camps. See the GEVA camp information below
to learn about a related regional program.
-
GEVA sponsors its own version of the
High Performance
Program. Try-outs to attend the camp are for athletes who fall under the following categories: Future Select (FS) (born in 1996 or later), Select (1994 or later), and Youth (1992 or later). To receive an invitation to the HP Camp an athlete needs to attend one or both tryouts that will be held on Saturday May 10, 2008 and/or Sunday May 18, 2008 for the FS and Select groups, and May 10th and May 31st for the Youth age group.
If an athlete is selected as a result of attending the May try-outs, that athlete will be one of about 30 National Select, 30 Future Select, and 15 Youth age group athletes to receive an invitation to attend the GEVA HP Camp beginning July 6, 2008. This will be the GEVA Region USA National Select and Youth teams that will compete in the High Performance National Tournament in Arizona at the end of July.

NIKE has a hand in
US Sports Camps, a national network of camps.
This link is to the volleyball camps section, which has a large number of
camps listed and a solid repository of information. Each camp appears
to be particular to the director (some are very well established as college
head coaches) and location (e.g., college) that host and
run the camp. It appears that some instructors who used to run their own branded camps are now
affiliating with this camp organization for marketing purposes. One of
the camps near us is new for 2008: Rutgers University,
from August 3 - 6. Another is at Fairfield University,
Connecticut, with four camps running from July 20 - August 1, 2008.
Others are at Swarthmore College in
Pennsylvania, with a camp June 29 - July 3, 2008 and at
Oaks, PA from July 21 - 25, 2008.
-
World Volleyball Camp.
A well regarded program (also known as Huguenot). Held at the YMCA World
Volleyball Training Center in upstate New York (Huguenot, NY). Four
week-long sessions run from July 13 through August 8, 2008, with weekend
"skills camps" that allow a student to stay for two contiguous weeks from
July 18 - 20 and August 1 - 3, 2008.
-
Penn State Volleyball Camp. Individual camps and team
camps are offered. Well regarded and includes Russ Rose as director
(he's everywhere in Central PA). The individual instructional camp
session will be held June 29 - July 3, 2008. Other camps are for
full teams attending with their coaches.
-

well-regarded coaches
from the Push The Rock Volleyball Club.
- 3rd Annual
Tri-State
Elite Girls Volleyball College Prospect Camp - for the classes
of 2009 and 2010. A large number of college representatives attend
this camp. The dates are confirmed for June 27 – June 29, 2008 in
Pittsburgh, PA.
- The
Great Lakes Center. We're talking
Illinois, here, as well as Texas, Ohio and Michigan. It offers a plethora of general skills and specialized camps
and draws participants from across the country. The program is
considered top-notch and their setting camps are consider among the best in
the country!
