  • Prep Volleyball ranked Nia Reed 12th in the country for this senior class - Nia Reed, 6-2 OH/MB, Immaculate Heart Academy (Washington Township, New Jersey), DIGS – Penn State.  Senior Ace Nia Reed - Strong and possessing the ability to contact the ball from somewhere in the stratosphere, Reed might be the most physical of the talented Penn State recruiting class. Touching almost 10-9, she hits the ball with more authority than just about anyone in the nation. The two-time New Jersey Gatorade POY has unmatched athleticism and is a versatile attacker with the ability to score in all three front row positions. Her improving defense and serve receive and a lethal jump serve make Reed, a three-time state champion with Immaculate Heart Academy, a candidate to play all six rotations with the Nittany Lions. Head coach Russ Rose got a national POY candidate when he plucked Ariel Scott from IHA. He may have another one day in Reed, a player with a very similar skill set.

REMEMBERING SCOTTY MOSE

“A good coach can change a game. A great coach can change a life.”- John Wooden

It is with deep sadness that we share that Scotty Mose has passed away.

Scotty was well known in the collegiate, national, and club volleyball worlds. In 1971 he created and developed the  largest volleyball camp on the east coast in, World Volleyball Training Center (a/k/a, Scotty's Camp).  In 1972 he was the assistant coach of the United States National team.  He led the United States National Team for the Deaf to a gold medal in 1985 and silver in 1989.   In 1977 in his first year as the head coach at Rutgers University, he led the women's volleyball team to its first-ever victory by beating William Paterson College.  Following his time there he coached at Seton Hall.  He was recognized by the YMCA Volleyball Hall of Fame.  Scotty also helped develop several junior club programs including USA East, LIBA, Bergen VBC, & DIGS.

Jersey Girls Volleyball Club (DIGS) was founded in 1987 by Scotty and he was actively coaching until 2020.  For many young girls that have passed through the DIGS program Scotty has been an integral part of their development.  If he wasn’t their coach then he most likely taught and/or mentored one of the current coaches in our program.   Being coached by him was a right of passage.

Scotty Mose's impact on the volleyball community went beyond coaching. He has been a competitive player, a mentor, and an inspiration to many young athletes and his love and passion for the game were infectious.

Scotty was a father, veteran, coach, friend, and a mentor to so many.  He touched so many of our lives for the better and we want to thank him for starting this club.  He created a place where young athletes will be able to learn and love the game of volleyball for many generations to come.

Scotty, we want to thank you for your generous time and constant effort all 73 years of coaching volleyball . You were a fantastic example and an even better teacher!

We Love You!
